About
our Internet-site:
New project by Regional
Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments in Smederevo
The
Smederevo Regional Institute for the preservation of cultural monuments is presenting
this Internet-site for use by colleagues from the Preservation Institute and other
similar bureaus, but also by the broadest public interested in immovable cultural
objects in the region that we operate in.
We hope that it will become a precious guide to the monumental heritage
of the Smederevo and Braničevo region and the state in which this heritage
is in.
We endeavored to give a compact review of the results that we reached
through several years' work on the preservation of the monumental heritage,
so that all those interested could receive brief, plain and reliable information
on immovable cultural objects that are under state protection.
Apart from the introductory text on the Institute and its work so far, we have
given a catalogue presentation of six immovable cultural objects of extreme
significance, from our region.
Finally, we give tables of all the cultural objects established to the present
day, which can easily be located on the accompanying map.
Due to limited space, we did not speak of the recorded objects, although,
by number and significance, they also represent a great treasure that has yet
to be evaluated and preserved in the proper manner.
Since
many of them are in the process of establishment, the photographs of some of
them are presented, so that an impression may also be reached of that part
of the heritage, which is less familiar to the public.
This is a review of sorts of our activities so far, and we believe that we
will also find it useful, first of all to give us a better view of the matter,
but also as a guide to our further, better work.
Therefore, we intend this to be the first of a series of planned projects,
which should shed more thorough light on our entire monumental heritage, or
certain segments of it.
Finally, we wish to extend special gratitude to the institutes and individuals
that participated in the protection of the monumental heritage of this region,
trusting that their number and care will increase in time, and also the general
awareness of our people and our government of the importance and need for constant,
dedicated care of the monumental heritage.
